We are utilizing the power within the song Pray For Me by Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd. The performance team is tasked with learning the lyrics and understanding their depth from their own unique perspectives. They are learning that you cannot effectively respect the message/thought/emotion behind a song without connecting to it first and that their responsibility as a dancer/performer is to give people the ability to SEE music.
The song speaks on multiple current issues and emotions that need to be communicated. That is our purpose for our performance March 24.
Our mission at BCAI is to equip individuals with increased awareness of self, community and various cultures through unique training in the Arts. When you are fully aware, you are better capable of preventing, protecting and building effectively. We tailor world awareness to our students but never sugar coat. We teach that we ARE our brothers/sisters' keeper and we have a responsibility to defend when we are able.
Saturday, March 24, we stand not only for the surface issue at hand but also for the underlying deeper issue of complete disregard for humanity, humane rights and the destructive cycles that are plaguing our world daily. Our youth have voices that penetrate even the strongest walls of opposition if we only let them have the mic or the floor or the pen.
